Smith County Volunteer Firefighter Dies from Injuries

An East Firefighter who was responding to a call last week has died of his injuries from a rollover accident.
Authorities say 19-year-old Jalen Smith, a Smith County firefighter with Jackson Heights Volunteer Fire Dept. had been hospitalized since Friday November 30th.
Smith and two other firefighters were on their way to the fire station responding to a tractor accident when the incident occurred. Smith was ejected from the vehicle after it rolled. The two other firefighters , C.J. Redwine, and Gary Robinson sustained minor injuries.
In honor of firefighter Smith, flags will be lowered at Half-Mast beginning Tuesday.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
