Just after 6:25 a.m. Punxsutawney Phil was pulled from is warm burrow in Pennsylvania and General Lee emerged from his plantation home in Georgia to predict if we are to experience six more weeks of winter or if we'll see an early spring.

So far this year, we've had a pretty mild winter and it looks as if those temps will be warming sooner than later. When Phil emerged from his den in Pennsylvania he did not see his shadow, meaning an early spring is coming according to legend. At the time he was pulled from his den there was some slight snow in Punxsutawney with a temperature around 30.

The groundhog has been predicting the arrival of spring since 1887 and during that time period he has only seen his shadow 104 times and this is only the 20th time he hasn't seen a shadow (organizers admit there are 10 years of records missing too). Most of the time, Punxsutawney Phil is incorrect in his prediction and meteorologist are skeptical of his predictions. Especially since a major cold front will be marching across the country this week.

For now though, expect an early spring according to Phil!

For the time being enjoy this spring like day we're expected to have in East Texas, because a change is coming in our weather next week, no matter a groundhog says!
