It is hard to imagine that someone would intentionally abandon a domesticated animal and let it become a stray and fend for itself. That's exactly what someone did to Mackey.

Mackey is a 5-year-old hound mix found as a stray in Smith County nearly two years ago. Because of the trauma from being abandoned, Mackey does have some trust issues.

Pets Fur People's caretakers say that he is a one-person kind of dog. So if you're single and looking for a canine companion, this guy would be perfect for you.

Mackey is a loyal dog who has been at the shelter for such a long time and he just hopes you'll stop in take some time to get to know him and adopt him for yourself.

He will go home with you with a starter kit of food, a collar, and a leash.

For additional information on adopting Mackey call 903.597.2471 or check the Humane Society’s Pets Fur People website. Pets Fur People requires a completed adoption application before arranging a meet and greet. Check out the animals that are available for adoption. Adoption hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 am until 5 pm - closed for lunch 1-2 pm.
