Free Pet Adoptions Offered in Tyler This April
(Tyler, Texas) Pet parents throughout the Piney Woods are receiving unconditional love every day from their dogs, cats, parrots, potbelly pigs, and other pets. They’re greeted with wagging tails, squawks, or snorts as these animals make their way to the door to say hi. These animals mean everything to East Texans.
Why East Texas Families Need Pet Food Support
Unfortunately, budgets are being strained to the max right now. Many East Texas families are facing tough decisions when it comes to purchasing pet food. With the cost of gas and groceries, oftentimes, pet food is one of the first things that gets cut from the family budget. Families then end up having to surrender their beloved pet to a local shelter because they simply can't afford food for them.
The Tyler community has been coming together and supporting those who can't afford pet food by making donations to the Pet Food Bank located at Tyler Animal Services on Highway 31 West.

How the Tyler Pet Food Bank Helps
The Pet Food Bank was established in 2015 so that families in need or those who could not afford to feed their pets would have a safety net to keep pets in their homes. Many times, people who want to surrender a pet to Tyler Animal Services only need time to get over a short-term financial hurdle.
Since the program's inception, more than 36,000 pounds of pet food and litter have been distributed, allowing those in need to keep their pet during some difficult financial times.
How to Adopt a Pet for Free This April
During April, Tyler Animal Services is waiving the adoption fee on dogs and cats with a 6-bag donation of pet food. They ask that the donated food be in bags of 15 pounds or smaller. All donated food will go directly to the Pet Food Bank and will not be used by Tyler Animal Services.
With a qualifying donation, you can adopt a dog or a cat from the shelter for free. All adopted animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. The normal adoption fee for dogs is $120, and $80 for cats.

Where to Drop Off Donations
Donations may be dropped off Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Tyler Animal Services at 4218 Chandler Highway (Highway 31 West).
You can support the Pet Food Bank by donating pet food, litter, or blankets at any time to support those families who can't afford pet food at the moment. Even if you donate more than the six bags of food, you're not obligated to adopt an animal from the shelter.
