Texas Voting: Make Sure You Do & Know These Important Things

Texas it is time to make sure you are registered to vote and know these things before the deadlines fast approach.

Texans will have 14 constitutional amendments that were recently placed on the ballot by state legislators to vote for. As of Monday, there were 186,425 registered voters, according to votelubbock.org.

Important dates for the upcoming election:

Last Day to Register to Vote: Tuesday, October 10, 2023
Early Voting: Monday, October 23, 2023 through Friday, November 3, 2023
Last Day to Apply for Ballot by Mail (Received, not Postmarked): Friday, October 27, 2023
Election Day: Tuesday, November 7, 2023: Last day to receive a ballot by mail at 7 p.m. if carrier envelope is not postmarked.

Be a United States Citizen

Be a resident of the county where you submit the application

Be 18 years old (you may register at 17 years and 10 months)

Not be a convicted felon (you may be eligible to vote if you have completed your sentence, probation and parole)

Not be declared mentally incapacitated by a court of law

What's on the November ballot?

Proposition 2: This proposition will allow properties where child care services are provided to have tax exemptions of at least 50 percent of the property's appraised value.

Proposition 4: This proposition raises Texas' school district homestead exemption from $40,000 to $100,000. This is done at a cost of $5.6 billion. It also adds a temporary limit on appraisals for commercial, mineral, and residential properties with homestead exemptions worth more than $5 million.

Proposition 8: If passed, Texas will set aside $1.5 billion in funding to be used to fund projects that will expand broadband infrastructure in Texas.

Proposition 9: This proposition allows voters to decide whether Texas can use $3.3 billion for a cost-of-living adjustment to retired teachers' pension checks.

Proposition 14: This proposition will allow the state to use over $1.1 billion for the creation of new state parks.

What do I need to bring?

Who can vote by mail?

You must be 65 or older by Election Day on November 6.
You will be out of county for the entire voting period, which is from October 23 to November 7.
You have a sickness or disability that prevents you from voting in person without assistance, or if voting in person may cause injury to yourself without assistance.
The expected birth of your child is three weeks before or after Election Day (November 7).
You are currently in jail but not convicted of a felony.
