The University of Texas Longhorns mascot is Bevo and he has been supported the football team on the sidelines for over 100 years. Now, PETA is asking for the beloved bovine to be banned from AT&T Stadium during the College Football Playoff semi-final Cotton Bowl Classic game to decide if UT or Ohio State will meet the University of Notre Dame for the National Championship.

According to this KVUE article, PETA claims Bevo will be highly stressed and terrified by the environment of a packed football stadium, and it would bring unnecessary health risks into his life. PETA has sent a letter to the Southeast Conference asking them to ban UT from traveling with their 12th player, and taking Bevo onto the field for the game.

PETA cites an incident in 2019 where Bevo appeared to charge at Uga, the University of Georgia's mascot as an example of why an animal should not be at a sporting event.
