Have you ever heard people tell you not to keep your social security card in your wallet? Apparently it's not just a thing your mom tells you, feds are now warning Texas, and the rest of the country.

I don't know if it's because my mom always told me not to carry my social security card in my wallet, but I don't think I've ever needed a reason to actually have my social security card on me at all times.

Turns out, that's the way it's supposed to be! Feds are saying that if you do carry your social security card in your wallet- get it out of there immediately!

Here is what the Social Security Administration says:

We encourage you not to carry your Social Security card with you every day. The best way to “Guard Your Card” is to keep it in a safe place and share it only when required, which is rare

I have noticed that it is rare when your social security card is required. The social security administration says that in the event that you would ever need anything to do with your social security- just knowing the number would suffice. But they do warn about freely giving up your social security number; always make sure you know why your social security number is needed and how it will be used.

If you do lose your card, you can visit this website to find out how to replace it. But I think the message is clear here, don't just leave it in your wallet! Also, you can't laminate it- so make sure you keep it in a safe and dry place!
