Johnny Manziel’s Football Career on Hold Again

Johnny Manziel has not played in the NFL since 2016. Since that time, he has stayed out of the news, thank goodness.

However, he has been working toward a chance to play in the Canadian Football League. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats own the rights to Manziel if he plays in their league.

Wednesday (September 27), Manziel received news that he will not play in the 2017 season according to ESPN.

The decision was based more on the timing of the CFL's 2017 season. There are only five games left in their season.

Playing in 2018 could be a possibility, though.

CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie has set some conditions for Manziel to join the league. If those conditions are met, then Johnny Football could be a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for the 2018 season.

Manziel had this to say in a statement:

I recently had a really positive meeting with Commissioner Ambrosie and welcomed the chance for us to get to know each other and have an in-depth talk about a possible future with the CFL.

I love this game and want to be back on the field in a situation where I can help a franchise in the long term. Over the past months, my agent helped me vet all of my options for playing, figuring out where I could be most effective and get back to having the most fun with the game I love. I'm ready to play today, but we all agreed with the Commissioner that it made no sense for me to join a team with only a month left in the season -- it wouldn't have been fair to my teammates, coaches or the fan base.

I want to come into a team and earn my job day one, like everyone else. I look forward to preparing myself as best I can and look forward to what the future holds.

We shall see what happens but it seems like Manziel has grown up a bit. Good luck Johnny, maybe this is the fresh start you've been looking for.
