Former ATF Agent Larry Smith defeated former Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden Chris Green to become the next sheriff of Smith County.

Smith won Tuesday’s primary runoff elections by taking 53% of the vote to Greens 47 %

Unofficial but final results showed Larry Smith with 13,501 votes to Chris Greens 12075 separating the two candidates by more than 13 hundred votes.

Larry Smith will become the first new sheriff of Smith County since 1976. Current Sheriff J.B. Smith who has held the post for the past 35 years is retiring at the end of this year.
