A Steven Soderbergh-directed film about the life of Liberace, starring Michael Douglas as the flamboyant paino player and Matt Damon as his live in lover, will air on HBO. “Behind the Candelabra,” has been in development since 2009, but didn’t have a home until HBO picked it up Tuesday.

Earlier this year, Douglas and Damon confirmed their involvement in the project, and joked about scenes which will call for the two leading men to make out.

Wladziu Valentino Liberace, who died in 1987, was the highest paid entertainer in the world during the 50s, 60s and 70s. “He was Elton John and Lady Gaga before they even dreamed of it,” said HBO producer Jerry Weintraub.

While Douglas and Damon both appeared in Soderbergh’s 2011 film ‘Contagion,’ this will be the first time they act together. ‘Behind the Candelabra’ is scheduled to shoot next summer.
