Early morning storms in Lufkin produced wind gusts strong enough to throw cars of a train from a trestle onto the pavement below of Loop 287 in Lufkin.
Spring severe weather season is upon us and this afternoon East Texas could be looking at a line of severe thunderstorms that'll move through bringing with it high winds, large hail and the possibility of tornadoes.
Update 1:30 p.m.
The National Weather Service says the threat for large hail and tornadoes is now less than it looked yesterday, but is still not gone completely. It appears now the greatest threat is going to be from winds in excess of 70 mph.
The northern half of East Texas is under a slight risk of severe weather today. Isolated thunderstorms with the possibility of very large hail could develop later this afternoon.
