I saw an artist perform the other day, who may or may not be on this list *cough cough* that did a phenomenal rendition of a song outside of their genre. It got me thinking about the artists in our Texas Music scene - the songs they choose to cover at their shows and why they choose those particular songs.
'I Will Always Love You' isn't an easy song to sing. That's why the late Whitney Houston's flawless take on the Dolly Parton-penned tune became one of the biggest hits in music history. But a woman on an American Airlines flight between Los Angeles and New York's version of the song wasn't as well received.
It's safe to say that Whitney Houston's song "I Will Always Love You" is one of the most covered songs of all time. The song is a difficult song to sing anyway, but the fact it has Whitney's name behind it makes anyone having to sing it nervous. The Billboard Music Awards show last night had many great moments and performances, but the moment that took everyone's breath away, had to be Jordin Sparks and John Legend's tribute to Whitney Houston.
After the contestants on American Idol were trimmed down to 13 last week, Wednesday night was when we were exposed to the immense amount of talent that fills Season 11. And as Wednesday's performances started winding down, 19-year-old Jessica Sanchez stole the show.

Whitney Houston was mournfully remembered at the 54th annual Grammy Awards Sunday (Feb. 11) with an emotional performance by Jennifer Hudson. Houston, who was a six-time Grammy winner, shockingly passed away on Feb. 11 in her room at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
The news of Whitney Houston's passing has hit us hard! Everyone has heard her music and now she is gone. Her music was a big part of my life. In the '80s and '90s we all danced to her music (and I can't dance but I did whenever a Whitney song came on!) I will miss her music and that magical voice. God Speed Whitney!
