Sheriff Investigator Lt. Tony Dana says deputies received the a call around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday from the security guard at Emerald Bay in Bullard notifying officers that two teens jumped inside the security guard's truck and sped off.

Shortly before 1:30 a.m., deputies spotted the truck and attempted to stop the vehicle. A pursuit began and went through Flint and Gresham and then north on Highway 69, where Tyler Police assisted and deployed spikes, stopping the truck in the 2700 block of South Broadway.

Jailed are the driver, 17-year-old Daniel Bennett, and 17-year-old Christopher Hamrick both of Tyler. Bennett is charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest, Hamrick is being held on a drug possession charge.

No injuries were reported

Smith County Shooting Under Investigation

A shooting overnight has left a Smith County man hospitalized  in Tyler with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Smith County Sheriff investigators say 35-year-old Kevin Brantley was shot when he tried to break up an argument between his wife and another woman at a residence at 20500 County Road 26 in Smith County.

Smith County Sheriff Investigator Lt. Tony Dana says the alleged shooter, 27-year-old Jonathon Daniel Johnson turned himself into authorities Thursday afternoon and is charged with aggravated assault. Bond has been set at $150,000.

The shooting remains under investigation.

 

Occupant of Towed Vehicle Dies in Crash in Cass County

Texas Department of Public Safety reports the driver of a U-Haul truck towing a van lost control of the vehicle throwing the occupants around inside the towed van.

One of those passengers, 84- year-old Eloise Stiger Peters of Atlanta, Texas was pronounced dead at the scene, another passenger in the towed van, 86-year-old Charlie Peters also of Atlanta, Texas was not injured.

DPS says the driver of the U-Haul truck , 60-year-old Cora Lee Straker of Houston, Texas was traveling north on highway 59 when she lost control of the truck forcing the towed vehicle to sway back n forth. Straker was not injured.

Both passengers in the van were not wearing seat belts.
