A 15-year-old Tyler student has died after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bike to school this morning, according to a police report.

Don Martin, Public Information Officer with the Tyler Police Dept. said Allen Hall, a student at Robert E. Lee High School, was riding against traffic when he was struck by a man driving a 2011 GMC Sierra on Loop 323 near Old Troup Highway in front of Green Acres Bowling Alley.

Martin said Hall was dragged nearly 100 feet before the driver of the vehicle realized he had struck the bicyclist when he saw the boy’s backpack. Hall died a short time later at East Texas Medical Center from severe head trauma, according to Martin.

Tyler Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Randy Reid released the following statement about Hall's accident:

We are deeply saddened by the unexpected loss of Allen Hall, one of our Robert E. Lee High School students. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. We know this will be a difficult time for many of our students. Our school counselors will be available to help them cope with the loss of their classmate.”
