Brad Paisley won't be onstage with Carrie Underwood at the 2019 CMA Awards in November -- but he'll be cheering her and her new co-hosts on.

After hosting the the awards show with Underwood from 2008 through 2018, Paisley's role is being filled by country icons Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton, part of the Country Music Association's initiative to celebrate the genre's women during the ceremony's broadcast. Addressing complaints from fans accustomed to his co-hosting role and applauding a friend and two heroes, the country star tweeted out his thoughts on the change-up on Monday (Aug. 19).

"As a fan of all 3 of these amazing women," Paisley writes, "I can’t wait to watch."

The CMA has not further addressed its decision to swap co-hosts for the 2019 CMA Awards, but from the sound of things, Paisley doesn't fear a drop-off in quality. After all, McEntire and Parton rank among the few country stars with the charisma and sense of humor to fill his boots.

Underwood's return for a 12th straight year of CMA Awards hosting further obliterates Vince Gill's old record of 10 consecutive CMAs hosting gigs from 1994 to 2003. Her co-hosts also bring prior experience, with Parton hosting the show in 1988 and McEntire serving as host or co-host for three consecutive years, 1990 to 1992.

This year marks the 24th time in 53 years that at least one woman appeared as a host of the CMA Awards. The short list of women who have hosted the show since Bobbie Gentry co-hosted the inaugural event in 1967 includes Dale Evans (1968), Barbara Mandrell (1980-1982) and Anne Murray (1983, 1985, 1989).

Nominees for the 2019 CMA Awards will be announced on Aug. 28. The show itself is scheduled for Nov. 13, and will air live from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on ABC at 8PM ET.
