Chris Stapleton’s ‘Nobody to Blame’ Wins Song of the Year at 2016 ACM Awards

Several weeks ago, Chris Stapleton won New Male Vocalist of the Year at the 2016 ACM Awards. At the actual award ceremony on Sunday night (April 3), the upstart immediately added to his trophy collection, winning Song of the Year for "Nobody to Blame."

"You gotta be kidding me," Stapleton said as he took the stage with the song's co-writers, Barry Bales and Ronnie Bowman. "I thought sure we were going to get "Girl Crush"-ed on this one."

After saying a quick thanks, the singer ceded the mic to Bales and Bowman. The latter grinned excitedly and told a story about his late mother.

"I was living in a mobile home, 14 years old. And she said, 'Son, would you write me a song?' and I went back there and did that," Bowman recalled. "And I've been doing that ever since thanks to my mama."

Bales thanked his wife, as well as the other two for being "friends and mentors and allowing me to come write with them and learn from the best."
