(Austin, Texas) - Texas is known for a lot of things, including some fantastic food. Some of that food is native to our great state but there is food from other countries here for us to enjoy. I'm all about trying something new so my taste buds don't get too lazy.

My wife isn't as adventurous with her food. She has a certain way everything should be cooked for her enjoyment. I've learned, and still learning, how she likes it. She's changed my mind on how to prepare and cook a couple of things, too.

The Barbecue in Texas

One place I do love to go is Stanley's Famous Pit Bar B-Q in Tyler. Their Mother Clucker is a fantastic sandwich and their brisket is so good that I'm drooling on myself just typing about it. But did you know that brisket was created in Texas?

Well technically, brisket is a Jewish cuisine (onehotmamas.com). It's the brisket we know and love that was created in Texas using various spice rubs and mesquite wood. Then we cook it low and slow to make our bellies happy.

Original Foods Created in Texas

Another food created in Texas is the corn dog. Neil and Carl Fletcher introduced us to the favorite at the Texas State Fair (now called State Fair of Texas) in 1942 (bar-s.com). Fletcher's Original Corny Dogs are still the star of the State Fair of Texas every year. Fritos were also created in Texas along with Frito pie.
