All it took was 0.15 pounds for Eric Thompson to catapult himself to the top of the 2015 Big Bass Bash leaderboard, and he stayed there.

Thompson, of Flint, bested his friend Ryan McCoy of Flint during the 8 a.m. weigh-in on Sunday with an 8.45-pound bass to take home the third Big Bass Bash championship at Lake Palestine Resort.

Thompson's beautiful bass netted him a check for $10,000 and the bragging rights as our third Big Bass Bash champ.

McCoy took the lead during the 10 a.m. weigh-in with his 8.30-pound bass, which at the time was 1.55 pounds bigger than any fish prior.

More than 300 anglers invaded Lake Palestine for our third Big Bass Bash, and thankfully the weather held up for us! It wasn't too long after we handed out checks that Mother Nature brought the house down.

Here are the top five overall fish for the weekend:

  • 1. Eric Thompson, Flint — 8.45 pounds
  • 2. Ryan McCoy, Flint — 8.30 pounds
  • 3. Mark Sanford, Grand Saline — 6.75 pounds
  • 4. Gary Heath Jr., Chandler — 6.50 pounds
  • 5. Kevin Kadlecek, Rusk — 6.45 pounds

Thank you to everyone who came out and fished with us this weekend, as well as the wonderful folks at Sealy Outdoors for another great time. And many thanks to all of our sponsors, because we couldn't do it without you.

The dates are already set for next year's tournament -- April 9-10, 2016 back at Lake Palestine Resort. We'll see you there!
