With school starting and football season taking over, we wanted to specify a certain school and team each week. But then we thought, well, why not spotlight a different community every week? So that's exactly what we are going to do. To kick things off, we're going to start with the lovely East Texas Community of Longview, Texas.

Longview is a city located in both Gregg and Harrison County. Most of it is located in Gregg County, where it is the county seat, but some portions of it do stretch out to Harrison County. The community itself was founded in the late 1800's when the Southern Pacific Railroad was extended from Marshall in Harrison County to Gregg County. The railroad bypassed through Earpville, laying out a a new town on land to the west, which was named Longview. The population of Longview was last recorded in 2009 at 78,036. Longview has also birthed some famous faces as well, including actor  Forest Whitaker, country superstar Neal McCoy, and People's "Sexiest Man Alive" Matthew McConaughey. While to us East Texans, Longview may seem like a podunk little town, there is actually a lot of interesting things that it stores in its history and offers for tourists and history buffs. Keep an eye on our websites because we will be bringing you a lot of fun information and facts that you might not know about Longview!
