Texas ISN’T the Friendliest State?
You probably haven't made travel plans based on how FRIENDLY the locals are to outsiders in a certain state, but that CAN have an impact on how your trip goes.
Newsweek has a ranking of all 50 states, based on how friendly they are to tourists according to a survey of travelers on social media. And if the states in the northeast have a reputation for being rude, THIS won't help.
New York was named the rudest state in America, followed by:
- Arkansas
- Delaware
- Massachusetts
- New Jersey
- Washington
- New Hampshire
- Nevada
- Florida
- Rhode Island
No single area of the country dominated the friendliest states list, so there wasn't that "Southern Hospitality," although a few southern states made it.
But ZERO states in the Northeast made the cut!
According to the results, the friendliest state in America is MINNESOTA.
The rest of the Top 10 are:
- Tennessee
- South Carolina
- Texas
- Wyoming
- Indiana
- Colorado
- Kansas
- Oklahoma
- Hawaii
If you look at their map, the central part of America generally seems friendly, minus Arkansas. Is that because there are fewer people in those states?
Maybe that's a cynical take: That travelers find places friendlier, the LESS they have to actually interact with locals.
As I've said many times, people are GERNERALLY friendly no matter where you go. I've been all over the country and outside of it many times as well...and people always seem to be friendly, if not only just simply cordial, everywhere I've been...except Paris, France.
To the people of Paris: Why are you so rude and why do you stare at a fat American getting a croissant and point at him and laugh?!? That fat American (me) has feelings too, you know!!! (That chocolate croissant was worth the ridicule though. So I WIN!!!)
