
Gary Allan’s Mother Dies: ‘We Will Miss You Dearly, Mama Mary’
Gary Allan and his family are grieving the death of his mother today. Mary Herzberg died on Sunday (Aug. 24).
Without sharing any details about the nature of her death, the singer broke the news on his Facebook page, saying, "It is with profound sadness that we share the loss of Gary’s mom, Mary Herzberg, who passed away yesterday."
Mother and son walked the red carpet together at the 2014 ACM Awards in Las Vegas. She was an important part of his career and life.
"If you had the privilege of meeting Mary, whether in person or online, you know the depth of her pride and love for Gary and her entire family," Allan's statement reads.
"Her warmth, encouragement and unwavering spirit touched all who knew her."
Who Is Gary Allan?
Gary Allan Herzberg is the son of Harley and Mary Herzberg. She was an advocate for music in their household growing up, and beginning at age 12, the future country hitmaker would start playing bars with his dad and brother five nights a week (per The Boot).
"Mary was so much more than a supportive mother," a note shared on Monday morning (Aug. 25) reads. "She was Gary’s friend, confidant, biggest critic, biggest fan, his original fan club president, and most importantly, his mom. She championed him not only in his career but also in every part of his life."
Harley Herzberg died in Sept. 2008. Allan's parents were married for 51 years.

Smoke Rings in the Dark was Allan’s breakthrough album in 1999, but his biggest radio hits would come from the Alright Guy and See If I Care albums.
“Man to Man” and “Tough Little Boys” both reached No. 1, as did “Nothing on But the Radio” in 2004.
While not always a chart-topper, the singer’s music was always appreciate for its lyrical and sonic integrity. “Watching Airplanes,” “Life Ain’t Always Beautiful” and “Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain)” are three more that would make most Top 10 Gary Allan Songs lists.
His last studio album was Ruthless, released in 2021.
