In Longview, senior citizens are helping children get the tools they need to succeed as we approach the beginning of the school year and it’s really amazing.  On Tuesday, residents at Buckner Westminster Place stuffed book bags with school supplies for 57 children specifically for children in foster care.

From KLTV, the supplies are for children who are in Pre-K to 12th grade and everyone participating is enjoying every moment amid this great cause.

91-year-old Rusty Lee who graduated high school in 1944 told KLTV:

It has been a long time since I have graduated.  The necessities of today didn’t exist when I was in school.  We didn’t have backpacks, we carried them in our hands and we used a tablet (paper) and a pencil and that’s all.

The officials of Buckner have learned a valuable lesson from the efforts of their seniors and on August 12, So now, they are having a back-to-school ice cream social where they'll present the backpacks and supplies to the students.
