Texas is full of hardworking people, that take pride in putting in the long hours so they can take care of their family. But there are always some people trying to scam others to not have to work and steal from others.  

We are fortunate in Texas to have some tremendous law enforcement officers and departments that work to shut these scams down, but let’s look at some of the scams that have been hitting Texas hard right now. 

These criminals are being very slick. NBCDFW is reporting that Plano is seeing an recent increase in scam callers there the scammers are claiming to be police officers. 

Scammers Using Real Texas Police Numbers 

These scammers are good at acting like real police officers, falsely identifying themselves. Other times it might seem as though they are calling from a real police phone number, but what is all part of the scam. 

The scammer will say there is an outstanding debt or suggest that someone missed court and then demand payment to avoid being arrested. There was one victim that was so scared they sent $9,500 in Bitcoin to the scammers. You need to be extremely careful right now. 

Tips to Avoid Being Scammed in Texas 

If anyone calls you suggesting they are law enforcement officers and asks for any sort of payment, know that is a scam. Remember you can always hang up on potential scammers and call the non-emergency line for your police department.  

Just know that scammers are working extra hard to get your money and personal information right now, be very careful to avoid becoming the next victim.
