Texas Independence Day is this Saturday, March 2. If I were to ponder some of the most ideal ways to celebrate all things Texas, I can't help but imagine that chili would be on that list. Especially since, at least for now, chili is still considered the official food of the Lone Star State. Convinced? ;)

OK, then how perfect is it that this Saturday also means it's time for the 38th Rose City Chili Pod Cook-off? It also helps that it's happening at a pretty cool place, too--Texas Music City Grill & Smokehouse in Lindale, 55 Miranda Lambert Way. The public is welcome from 12 to 4p.m. A $5 donation door will go to benefit Ragan's Hope and The Music & Art Alliance of Texas.

In tandem with the cook-off, there will be a Youth Art Contest sponsored by TJC and other kids' activities throughout the day and live music at night.
