There ain't no party like a Big & Rich party, and the country duo proved just this Saturday night (June 18) at Country Jam 2016. The duo's hour-long and some change set opening for Blake Shelton in Grand Junction, Colo., showcased high energy, a slew of hits, countless covers and a moving tribute to our veterans.

It was surprise guest Cowboy Troy that made sure the audience remained on their feet towards the end of the set, first performing two songs on his ow, before Big Kenny and John Rich joined in. From Hoobastank's "I Get Knocked Down" and Pat Benatar's "Hit Me with Your Best Shot" to Don McLean's "American Pie," the high intensity covers only skyrocketed when the band segued into fan favorite "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)."

"This is a party, Country Jam style," Big Kenny said, and he wasn't lying.

While additional covers like Sir Mix a Lot's "Baby Got Back," Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk" and Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Give It Away" also impressed, it was Big & Rich's poignant "8th of November" that left a longstanding mark. Prefacing the song by saluting our veterans and active duty members, the duo then brought out a former member of the Navy to take a shot together. They then performed the song, which was inspired by a Vietnam veteran who survived a tragic operation where countless American troops died. A moving ballad, the duo then segued into "God Bless America" while the thousands on the festival grounds took off their hats and sang along.

Other highlights included Big & Rich's latest single "Lovin' Lately," as well as their first No. 1, "Lost in This Moment," which had couples two-stepping in the aisles.

"Are you having a Big and Rich time?" both Big Kenny and John Rich asked continually throughout their set, each time to greater screams. One of the few acts that had the majority of festival-goers on their feet, the duo successfully got the party started for Shelton, who would close out Night 3 of Country Jam.

Country Jam runs through Sunday (June 19) in Grand Junction, Colo.
