How This Texas Native Became One Of the NFL’s Top Coaching Candidates
Its that time of the year where fans of just a few NFL teams are celebrating their playoff appearances while the MAJORITY of teams are considering making changes in their front offices.
While most coaches are expected to stay where they are, there are a few coaches that are going to be on the move including the Dallas Cowboys now former HC Mike McCarthy who was let go this week.
One name that has been the talk of lots of insiders in the league is a Texas native who is getting a lot of attention from teams across the league.
Aaron Glenn Is The NFL's Hottest Coaching Prospect Right Now
As I was scrolling through social media, I came across a post from Navarro College in Corsicana, TX showing love to one of their alumni: Coach Aaron Glenn of the Detroit Lions.
Glenn is currently the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions who are the top seed in the NFC in this year's playoffs and are preparing to face the Washington Commanders in the divisional round of the playoffs.
During his tenure as DC for the Lions, the team has compiled a 39-28-1 record and Glenn has emerged as one of the NFL's hottest coaching prospects.
Born in Humble, TX, Glenn began his collegiate career at Navarro College in 1990. After two stellar years in which Glenn earned Junior College All-American status, Glenn transferred to Texas A&M to complete his college playing career.
Glenn played college football for Texas A&M University from 1992-1993 earning awards during his time with the Aggies, winning the Southwest Conference Newcomer of the Year (1992) and consensus first team All-American in 1993.
Glenn Was Drafted In The First Round By The New York Jets.
Glenn earned All-Pro honors twice with the Jets in 1997 and 1998 before moving on to play for the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints where he retired in 2008.
In 2014, Glenn began his coaching career with stops in Cleveland and New Orleans as a secondary coach before elevating to Defensive Coordinator with the Lions where the the team now has one of the top defenses in football.
He's Now One Of The Hottest Coaching Candidates In The Game Right Now.
Glenn has interviewed for head coaching jobs with the New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets and reportedly the Las Vegas Raiders. Glenn also reportedly turned down an interview with the New England Patriots and he could come up on the Cowboys radar after McCarthy's release.
We probably won't know what decision he will make until after the Lions season comes to an end but we're rooting for the Texas native to lead a team to victory soon.
