Here’s an interesting statistic.

Owning your home is a major part of living the “American Dream.” There’s just something about owning a piece of the planet that is satisfying.

I can’t recommend buying a home enough. The monthly mortgage payments are cheaper than paying rent and it’s nice to not have to answer to a landlord. It’s my home and I’ll do whatever the hell I want with it.

But there’s also what my wife and I jokingly refer to as the “homeowner blues.” That’s when you can’t just pick up the phone and call the landlord when something breaks. The costs of repairs can quickly add up if you don’t properly maintain your home.

But for my money, the positives of owning a home outweigh the negatives.

That said, buying a home is easier in some cities than in others. Some cities have many hurdles for those who are looking to buy a home. Others are more accommodating to potential homeowners.

The team at FinanceBuzz looked at government and housing industry data in the 100 biggest cities in the United States to determine in which folks are least and most likely to own a home. The results are good news for those of us in the Lone Star State.

Laredo and Austin are both very friendly to homeowners. But Plano takes the cake here in Texas. 56% of those living in Plano own their homes. The Dallas suburb was ranked 6th overall in the study. Researchers cited higher wages and the widespread availability of new homes as factors for the ranking.
