Longview has a new park set to open this Friday (March 16) according to the Longview News Journal.

"The Green" is a nine acre park at the corner of Spur 63 and Highway 31 in Longview.

The park came together thanks to donations from Keep Longview Beautiful, city of Longview and Gregg County. Also, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department gave a grant of $400,000. In all, the project cost was $1.2 million.

According to keeplongviewbeautiful.org, there is a half mile walking trail which contains six educational areas. Each area offers education on health, nature, art, music and more.

This Friday, March 16, will be the grand opening of the new park. Festivities begin at 4 with a butterfly release at 5:30. Green beer (St. Patrick's Day is Saturday) and food trucks will be on hand with live music from the Tuxedo Cats from 7 P.M. to 10 P.M.
