It's been a highly contested debate in Tyler for over a year...whether to change the name of Robert E. Lee High School.

So much so, there's a Facebook page dedicated to this issue encouraging everyone to #bebetter:

The Tyler ISD school board has been back and forth on this issue, and until last week, the latest decision was to push back the topic until after school ended for the year.

Okay, school is out now and once again, the debate has taken center stage in this town. KLTV reports that after much controversy, the TISD board vice-president submitted a request for a name change to "Lee High School," and it is on tonight's agenda to discuss.

My children went to Robert E. Lee, but I really don't have a problem whether the name is changed. If changed, though, I think something like Rose City High School would be a good option. Either way, this is a tough and touchy issue not likely to be solved in tonight's meeting.
