Love is in the air, candy in heart-shaped boxes line the shelves at Walmart, girls are starting to drop hints as to what ring they want, and men and women alike are checking their bank accounts wondering what they can afford.

All of this can only mean one thing: Valentine’s Day is almost upon us. We’ve come up with a list of great Valentine’s Day dates for Texans that are still romantic, but won’t leave you wondering how to pay the rent next month.

Go on a “Goodwill Date”.
This was something that went viral last year. Essentially you have a $10 budget, go to Goodwill and pick out the craziest clothes for your partner, put them on and then go to dinner. It’s different, funny, and will just make you smile.

Grab some cheap wine and chocolate and sit out on the lake dock.
This is an easy one. It involves all of the aspects of what Valentine’s Day is about. The chocolate, the wine, the beautiful view. Spending time together is what it’s all about isn’t it?

Put a “love lock” on the bridge at Rose Rudman and have a picnic.
This is a well-known tradition across the world, but a new one for East Texas, San Antonio and other Texas regions. The thought behind it is – you write something on the base of the lock, hook it around the fence, lock it and make a wish or talk about what you promised the other, etc. You then throw the key to the lock in the river and you can’t undo the vows you made because they are “locked”. It’s really cute and romantic, and girls love that stuff. Make a date out of it!

Date night in: take out and a cheesy Rom-Com.
This is just one of my favorite types of dates in general. This is a good quality time date. Curl up on the couch with some Chinese food and a good Nicholas Sparks movie, you’re set.

Early matinee movie and play arcade games at Times Square Cinema.
You can get two matinee (early afternoon) movie tickets at Times Square Cinema for $7. Get your ticket, pick your seat, and go play in the new arcade while you wait.

Go fishing.

Believe it or not, a lot of ladies in Texas like to go fishing. Bring a picnic and have a romantic night out on the boat. Maybe check the weather beforehand. Just in case.
