(KNUE-FM) A Smith County man is now behind bars after allegedly holding two people against their will last week while fleeing from law enforcement. According to CBS 19, the man taken into custody is a gang member and was fleeing from police during a drug raid.

Why Deputies Were Searching the Tyler Home

The Smith County Sheriff’s Office says that multiple law enforcement agencies were executing a search warrant on the 200 block of Tenaha Ave. in Tyler. Law enforcement was looking for Bryan Mayfield who is a wanted gang member who was believed to be at the residence.

What Happened When Officers Arrived

As soon as law enforcement arrived at the location, there were several people who fled on foot. There was one individual who was immediately taken into custody.

Suspect Allegedly Held Two People Inside Home

During the operation, Mayfield fled the scene, jumped over a fence and entered the backyard of a neighbor. Mayfield is believed to have dropped a handgun before entering a home without permission. Once inside the residence Mayfield held two people against their will.

After confirming Mayfield’s location inside the residence, officers entered the residence and took Mayfield into custody without incident.

Two other people were arrested in connection to this investigation, Brandon Monquez Dixon and Ray Davon Woodard.

After the arrests took place detectives searched the residence and found over 13 ounces of methamphetamine, over 2 pounds of marijuana, approximately 12 grams of “crack” cocaine, a .380-caliber handgun, assorted pills, and U.S. currency.

Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the investigation.
