(KNUE-FM) When you think of the most dangerous criminals most of us think of men, but there are women here in Texas who have committed such horrible crimes they are now on death row. One thing is for sure, it doesn’t matter your gender, race, or ethnicity; if you commit a crime in Texas, you will be forced to pay the consequences.

How Many Women Are on Texas Death Row?

We all know that there are women in prison, but when I was investigating the Texas Department of Criminal Justice website, I didn’t expect to see seven women on death row. But as you will see these women had done horrible things which is why they are incarcerated and on death row.

Gender and Race Breakdown

It was interesting to learn more about each one of these women. Four of the seven women on death row in Texas are White, two are Black, and one is Hispanic. Two of the seven women sitting on death row are from Harris County where Houston is located. Which is also fascinating because over 25% of all men on death row are from Harris County.

Why None Have Execution Dates

While there are execution dates set for multiple men on death row in Texas. There are zero women on death row with an execution date set at this point. This is a warning for all men and women that if you commit a violent crime in Texas, you could wind up on death row.

Texas Women Currently on Death Row

It's not too often that women in Texas get sentenced to death. Currently, of the 196 inmates sitting on death row, only 7 are women.
