Tyler, Get Ready For Roadwork On WSW Loop 323

Summertime in East Texas means an increase in road work projects.

Driving in to the station from Gresham along Old Jacksonville Highway I noticed the all too familiar orange and black road work and construction signs as I approached Loop 323. Seeing these signs I was left wondered what kind of road project is happening now. Then, yesterday morning I noticed on of those large digital message boards along the side of the road by the Brookshire's warehouse, so something big is about to happen.

Living in Tyler for more than two decades now, I know that any type of construction project on the loop is going to be cause for a big headache for everyone traveling through the construction zone. There's more congestion because of lane closures, slower speeds because of the work crews and impatient drivers. Thankfully though TXDOT is sparing most of us these major headaches because the work is going to be done during the overnight hours.

TXDOT and construction crews planned on beginning the project last Sunday (June 20th), but due to inclement weather, the project has been rescheduled to begin this Sunday (June 28th). Work crews will be working during the overnight hours on a repaving project for Loop 323. WSW Loop 323 from Texas State Highway 155 to U.S. Highway 69 will undergo pavement resurfacing.

During the resurfacing project, two lanes of Loop 323 will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday as crews resurface the roadway. Drivers using this portion of the loop during those times are encouraged to exercise extreme caution in the work zone. TXDOT anticipates the project to last one week and comes with an estimated price tag of $5 million dollars.
