While You Were Sleeping Last Night, Confederate Monuments Were Removed at UT
The spotlight on standing confederate monuments is clearly not losing any heat and on Sunday night, the ever-prominent University of Texas - Austin was added to the list of institutions that has removed statues over this last week.
Texas Tribune reported that just before 11 pm on Sunday, August 20, a campus email was sent to notify the community of the statue removals. When all was said and done, four statues were taken down:
- Robert E. Lee
- Albert Sidney Johnston
- John Reagan
- Former Texas Governor Stephen Hogg (not Confederate-related, for architectural reasons)
The Tribune also noted the next city in Texas highlighting this issue - Tyler, Texas. The name change of Robert E. Lee High School will be under discussion tonight in a public forum. So, if you have something to say that needs to be heard, you better make it out tonight!
