Ringing in the new year, celebrating our country's birthday and now, possibly, the independence of our great state.

The Smith County Commissioners Court is considering allowing public sale of fireworks for Texas Independence Day March 2nd.

This is possible thanks to a new law passed by the Texas Legislature that also allows firework sales for San Jacinto Day and Memorial Day. Approval must be approved by local commissioners courts first.

The court met earlier this morning (Tuesday, February 2nd). We'll update when a decision is made.
