Everyone in Texas knows that the game of football is almost like a religion around here. We have Thursday Night Football, Friday Night Lights, College Football on Saturday, NFL all day on Sunday, and Monday Night Football. We all cheer on our favorite teams but when someone gets hurt especially a local high school student, that’s when we all come together to help the person injured and their family.

By now you’ve probably heard of what happened to Cooper Reid while playing football. He is 16-years-old and was playing in Troup High School’s Homecoming football game when he suffered a traumatic brain injury. Cooper has been working hard toward recovery at a Tyler hospital, although recently he has transitioned to TIRR Memorial Herman in Houston for his next phase of recovery.

As You Would Expect, This Recovery Process is Expensive

All of the medical testing and work that is being done comes with huge bills, which is why there is a benefit and action that is being put together to offset some of these medical costs. On Saturday, November 12th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm there will be an auction and fish fry at the First Baptist Church in Troup, TX.

What Auction Items Will Be at the Cooper Reid Benefit

Some of the auction items include a rifle, fish fryer, signed Patrick Mahomes jersey, signed Cooper Rush football, signed Neil McCoy hat, and lots of other items. 100% of all proceeds will go to the Reid family to help with the financial burden. Hope to see you at the fish fry and benefit auction on November 12th.

LOOK: The story behind every NFL team name

Stacker delved into the story behind every NFL football team name. Overall team records, also included, are reflective of NFL regular-season games. There are some football teams with well-known nicknames—the Jets, for instance, are often referred to as Gang Green—but we also divulge how some teams’ official names are sparingly used (the Jets’ neighbors, the Giants, are actually known as the New York Football Giants). Sometimes a team name can tell you a lot about local history: The Vikings of Minnesota draw upon the area’s strong ties to Scandinavia, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are dripping in local legend related to Florida’s pirate past.

Let’s kick off the countdown with the folks who earned their nickname by buying boxes of used team jerseys.
