There are thousands of people that get together and party for a full weekend in Galveston, Texas in May known as “Go Topless Weekend”.

It’s adults acting like college party animals, which creates chaos for law enforcement and with so many incidents in the past, police are now working to shut the weekend down before it even gets started.

Ending the Jeep Weekend on Bolivar Peninsula

The weekend has become such a problem for law enforcement that officials are discussing shutting down the beach entirely just to avoid the hooligans that will get out of hand and cause trouble for others including police officers.

It’s clear, the crowds are known for getting out of hand. In 2023 the weekend ended with over 200 people being arrested and dozens were hospitalized.

‘Go Topless Weekend’ is About Jeeps Going Topless

Just to be clear, ‘Go Topless Weekend’ in Galveston is about Jeeps removing their tops. This is not about a bunch of public nudity.

But as Jeeps drive on the beach with the top off, drunk passengers and party animals climb all over the vehicles which leads to injuries and sometimes fights. Most incidents are escalated due to the amount of alcohol being consumed.

Zero-Tolerance for Criminal Violations

It’s alarming that grown adults cannot get together on a public beach without causing trouble for local law enforcement. While it would be great to allow this event, I understand where law enforcement is coming from on this.

What do you think? Would it be best to shut down the beach for the weekend to avoid drunken chaos?
