(KNUE-FM) New reports are coming out regarding ICE confirming that a measles outbreak is currently taking place at the nation's largest detention facility in Texas. The information was shared by NBCDFW, and the agency has said they are closely monitoring the situation and working with public health officials while the facility is currently closed to visitors and attorneys.

Measles Outbreak Confirmed at Texas ICE Detention Facility

There are at least 14 confirmed cases of measles at the nation’s largest ICE detention facility, which is Camp East Montana located in El Paso. In addition to the 14 people who got sick, there are 12 individuals who have been isolated in connection to the outbreak.

Previous Deaths Reported at the Facility

Since Camp East Montana opened last year there have been three detainees who have died in ICE custody. Victor Mauel Diaz, 36, of Nicaragua “died of presumed suicide” on January 14. Francisco Gaspar-Andres, 48, a detainee from Guatemala died of health complications from cirrhosis and cardiac hypertrophy. Lastly, 55-year-old Geraldo Lunas Campos of Cuba died in January and was ruled a homicide.

ICE Says Medical Care Is Available for Detainees

According to ICE there is comprehensive medical care for detainees, including dental and mental health services. There is access to medical appointments and 24-hour emergency care.

Camp East Montana holds an average of 2,954 detainees.

As you would expect ICE is doing everything possible to eliminate any threat of others contracting measles. There is no word on when visitors or attorneys might be able to visit Camp East Montana once again.

Six Women Held in Wichita County for Attack at ICE Facility
