I am not trying to get attacked the next time someone recognizes me out in town, but there is no Texas BBQ that has ever piqued my interest the way this stew has. The thing that attracts me to this beef stew is the same thing that makes brisket so delicious, and that thing is time. You may smoke your brisket anywhere from 12 - 16 hours, and I bet it is the best piece of meat that you've ever had by the time it's done. That 12 - 16 hours isn't anything compared to beef stew that I saw in this video.

Travels on Toast took a trip to Bangkok where they found a stew that has been cooking for 47 years! It's called perpetual stew, and you can find it at Wattana Panich where it's been cooking for three generations.

Now, you may be wondering if the beef in the beef stew is 47 years old. The answer to that is "No". The beef is switched out on a daily basis, but the broth is a steady brewing mixture that the beef is cooked in for 7 hours every single day. The pot is cleaned every day, and the left over the stew keeps brewing overnight.

Travels on Toast described it as "so rich, really good...sweet". They described the meats as well cooked and soft. There are noodles, garlic, peppers, and a large amount of Chinese herbs in the mixture. There is really no telling what the actual ingredients are since it's been going for three generations.

If I ever get the chance to visit Thailand again I will definitely find this place and get a dish. Not only did Travels on Toast say that it was delicious, but it was only 100 baht. That's a mere three US dollars.
