Cedar Lake Home Health and Hospice in Malakoff has teamed up with other hospice providers, funeral homes, nursing homes and others to provide 5x8 American flags that can be draped over a veteran as they are leaving their home or facility for the last time.

"I consider this a grassroots movement and I hope that everyone will come along and we can get this thing nationwide," volunteer bereavement coordinator Barbara Meyer told KETK.

The movement is called "A Hero's Journey Home" and you can help by making a cash donation to purchase a flag or donating a flag by dropping it off at Cedar Lake Home Health and Hospice in Malakoff.

Administrator Cindi Calloway told KETK, "What happens is they drape their casket with a flag. We're wanting to start at the very beginning to honor them and so we want them to be able to have that flag as additional." She continued, "What an opportunity to show appreciation for veterans and their families because the family gets a flag too and just to show our gratitude and appreciation for the sacrifices that they've made."

The following information was shared on Cedar Lake Home Health and Hospice's Facebook page.
