Old K-Mart Property in Longview Could Look a Lot Different Soon
The old Kmart location on McCann Road in Longview could soon look a lot different.
According to the Longview News Journal, a Plano architect, Steve E. Sullivan applied to the city to build a 180 unit apartment complex, Parkside Apartments, on 11.4 acres of the current site.
If approved, construction could take about a year. The complex will feature one and two bedroom apartment units, a clubhouse, swimming pool and playground.
Another company is already planning to convert the Kmart building to a self storage complex. It will be called Simply Stor It and have about 500 to 600 storage units.
The property has been empty since 2016 when Kmart filed for bankruptcy. Kmart was owned by Sears who themselves have filed for bankruptcy and are closing stores across the country.
The Sears store at Broadway Square Mall in Tyler has already closed and is being prepared to be revamped into a food court type area.
