Texas is Latest State Reporting Illness Tied to Romaine Lettuce E. Coli Outbreak

The counts are growing.

The Centers for Disease Control's latest report added Texas, Minnesota, Florida and North Dakota to the latest list reporting illnesses related to an E. coli outbreak linked to romaine lettuce.

Illnesses were first reported on March 13, according to the FDA, who initially linked it to romaine lettuce from a farm in Arizona. However, since the additional reports of illnesses reported, the FDA is expanding their investigation into other farms as well.

According to the CDC, as of May 2:

• 149 illnesses reported
• 29 states involved
• 1 death
• 64 hospitalized

The CDC's investigation has so far revealed that illness occurs about two to three weeks after after eating the tainted lettuce.
