Texas Mom Crochets 500 Scarves to Comfort Military Moms
(KNUE-FM) There is one North Texas mom that is doing something amazing from her home to comfort other military moms across the country. In a world often filled with negativity, stories like this are a reminder of the good happening around us. For example, Denise Bush, a Fort Worth–area woman who is crocheting scarves for fellow military moms, creating a supportive community with every new scarf she makes.
According to WFAA, Denise is a homebody; she enjoys time at home with her adorable pug snoring while she works on crocheting projects. But she has built a community of supportive moms all over the country just by doing what she loves.

Her Son’s Navy Service Inspired the Project
Denise admits that she was so scared and nervous when she heard that her youngest boy wanted to join the military, specifically the U.S. Navy. At times she would go days or weeks not knowing exactly where her son had been deployed, so she did what she could to try and find her own type of therapy.
Denise has had her pug Mr. Wednesday by her side to keep her company when she would get scared or nervous but she truly believes what she is supposed to be doing is crochet.

How the Free Scarf Project Began
One day Denise thought maybe there were other moms that were just as worried as she was and maybe they needed something to comfort them. That idea led Denise to a Facebook group for military moms and she offered to crochet personalized scarves for free. Only asking recipients to pay for postage for the scarves with the name of whichever military branch their service member serves in.
She has since made over 500 scarves.
Continuing the Mission While Battling Leukemia
Denise has been diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia, yet she continues to crochet to help others.
