The First Dr. Pepper Ever Sold Was on This Date in Texas in 1885
Texan's love affair with Dr. Pepper's 23 flavors has been a long one. According to historical Facebook page Traces of Texas, the very first "DP" was sold on this date, January 12th, way back in 1885.
According to the US Patent Office, the beverage known as Dr Pepper, which was born in Waco, was sold for the very first time on 12th January 1885, making it the oldest major soft-drink brand in the United States.
Did you know that the 23 flavors are cola, cherry, licorice, amaretto (almond, vanilla, blackberry, apricot, blackberry, caramel, pepper, anise, sarsaparilla, ginger, molasses, lemon, plum, orange, nutmeg, cardamon, all spice, coriander juniper, birch and prickly ash? Now you do.
And while you can now enjoy an ice cold Dr. Pepper in many forms, Diet, 10, Cherry and more, there will never be anything like the ice cold original on a hot summer day in Texas -- or an unseasonably cold winter one.
