Thursday was the Anniversary of the Coldest Temp. Ever in the U.S.
It’s been getting a little chilly around here lately. Parts of Texas have even seen some snow in recent days and weeks. However this cold is nothing compared to the record cold which has an anniversary on Thursday.
Back on January 23rd, 1971… the mercury dropped to 80 degrees below zero in Prospect Creek, Alaska. WOW. That’s the coldest temperature ever recorded in the United States.
We’ve certainly had our share of cold temperatures, but not like that. The coldest temperature ever recorded in the Lone Star State was 23 degrees below zero in the town of Seminole. That was on February 8th back in 1933.
Around here no cold temperatures are expected. Highs will be back in the 60s this weekend and early next week. The warmth looks to stick around for a while. According to the outlook from the Climate Prediction Center, East Texas has a pretty good chance to see above normal temperatures into early February.
