SHOUT-OUT all school bus drivers! Twenty nine school bus drivers from across the area tested their driving and safety skills at the East Texas Association for Pupil Transportation’s annual School Bus Safety Road-E-O at Robert E. Lee High School last weekend.

This is serious competition folks.

School bus drivers competed in one of three divisions: conventional, buses with normal noses, transit, buses with flat noses and special needs buses that are shorter in length and equipped with a wheel chair lift.

Each bus drivers had to navigate through a difficult, timed obstacle course and complete several safety tasks. The competition is designed to help drivers improve the skills they use on a daily basis and practice the safety measures they would employ in an emergency.

The Tyler ISD Transportation Department is proud to have two individual winners in the transit division -  Marcos Salgado placed first and Pablo Reyes-Diaz placed second.

The Special Need’s team of Kathryn Collier and Judy Brown took second place in their division.

The winners will advance to the State competition in McAllen, Texas in June.

It's great to have the best Bus drivers around, after all these are the people carry our children back and forth safely from school everyday. Way to go!
