Witness Claims to Have Seen a Meteorite Crash in a Pasture in Lindale, Texas

(Lindale, Texas) - The beautiful thing about living out the country of East Texas is being able to avoid all the light pollution. That makes a clear night with no moon a sight to behold. You can look up and be mesmerized by the millions upon millions of stars in the sky.

What's even cooler is that you may see a shooting star or two while star gazing. Seeing those space rocks shoot across the sky as they enter our atmosphere is really cool to witness. Every once in a while, one of those rocks will survive long enough to hit the ground. That may have happened in Lindale, Texas Monday night.

Witness Claims to Have Seen Meteorite Crash in Lindale

On the Heads Up Lindale Facebook group, a witness says that he saw a meteorite crash in a pasture on FM 16. There is no video or pictures of the space rock coming down but the witness says it happened at 9:18 p.m. Monday night, May 18. He circled the general area he thinks it crashed.

To anyone that's lived in Lindale for a long period of time, they'll know that pasture and who owns it. I grew up in Lindale and know this area well, that's the Morrison's pasture where they've kept cows for decades. It would be cool if that space rock really did crash in their field.

There are a couple of places online that you can check if you believe a meteorite has crashed near you. One site is ares.jsc.nasa.gov/meteorite-falls. Here you can see the latest reported meteorite strike.

You can also go to ares.jsc.nasa.gov/meteorite-falls/how-to-find-meteorites/ to get more information into determining if a meteorite fell to Earth. There's nothing reported on the page for Monday night's event. It may take some time to determine if that space rock actually crashed in East Texas.
