(KNUE-FM) The flood that ripped through Central Texas on the 4th of July was devastating, and now that the water levels have gone down it looks like we are learning more about the area than ever expected.

Flooding Exposed Ancient Tracks

According to KXAN it appears that rare, fossilized dinosaur tracks were discovered.

The photos showing the tracks were taken on July 30, by Curtis Stover. It appears to show what is a dinosaur track that is bigger than a human foot but only contains three clawed toes. Whatever caused this must have weighed quite a bit for it to be persevered for so long.

Matthew Brown is a Paleontologist with the University of Texas, and he says that tracks like this have been seen before in Central Texas. After this discovery the team from the University of Texas will take photos back to their lab, next they will use GPS coordinated to find out if these tracks have been discovered or if this is a first.

As clean-up efforts continue after the flood, there will be an advisor who will stay on site to make sure the tracks aren’t destroyed.

This is a fascinating reminder that there were creatures that were roaming around Texas long before we ever got here.
