One hotel in Dallas made Christmas merry for hundreds of homeless men, women, and children by giving them a free night stay on Christmas Eve.

Fox 4 reports the Downtown Dallas Omni Hotel has teamed up with Soup Mobile and welcomed homeless individuals by red carpet including a banquet lunch with Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings. Even Santa Claus was on hand to spread some holiday cheer.

The event organizer Meliene Roussell created this event 13 years ago with 100 people and now it has grown to 500.  They are also planning next year's event immediately after and welcome any volunteers that would love to assist.

Which not only tells you the event has gotten bigger but the need has gotten bigger throughout the community. So, we need to all do what we can do to lower that number.

According to NBC DFW, the recent census of the homeless population in Dallas and Collin Counties showed more than 1,000 people were “unsheltered homeless” meaning they were living on the streets.  It is truly touching that Dallas Omni Hotel along with Soup Mobile were able to make Christmas merry for those individuals.
