I grew up watching the Olympics. I watched in awe at the sheer talent, athleticism and courage of brave athletes pushing themselves to the limit and achieving lifelong dreams. My parents felt it was a great example to us kids. And I agree. Now right here in our own backyard, we have a young athlete who will participate in the Junior Olympics.According to KLTV, 13-year-old Austin Jones of Arp has become one of the best young pole vaulters in the state of Texas.

Austin's dad even built a vaulting pit in the family's backyard so Austin could practice more. Well, the practice paid off. In Austin's first national qualifier, he won the gold medal by vaulting 11 feet. Now Austin is headed to the  AAU Junior Olympics next month in Humble.

Best of luck Austin!
